| Sven Ragnar Astrom Wins WPT Venice open |
The World Poker Tour action continued with a brand new event in Venice, Italy.
The €4,400 ($6,000 US) buy-in event is a non-televised event but that didn’t stop 397 players from making their way to the tables at Casino Di Venezia. The final two players were both from Sweden with Sven Ragnar Astrom knocking Per Martin Jacobson out on the final hand. Jacobson rivered the nut flush but Astrom rivered a full house and after all the money went in Astrom was champion. Astrom earned €397,960 ($543,000 US) for the win while Jacobson’s runner-up performance increased his bankroll by €238,840 ($326,000 US). The only North American player to make the final table of the five day event was Mike “Timex” McDonald who finished 4th for €109,540 ($150,000 US). Other top pros who played the event included Chad Brown, Dario Minieri, Michael Binger and Bertrand Grospellier. Josh “JJProdigy” Field, known for being at the center of more than one multiple-account scandal, also played the event and was an early chip leader before busting out.
